Gustavo Fimbres

Gustavo Fimbres is the Water Circular Economy Lead Research Fellow at the University of Sydney’s Waste Transformation Research Hub. With Chemical Engineering degrees from Tec de Monterrey (BEng, 2002) and UNSW (PhD, 2008), his research specializes in reducing the cost, energy use, and environmental impact of water and clean energy production. From 2009 to 2014 he was a Researcher for the Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC), and from 2014 to 2019 he was a Catedratico of CONACYT at the Instituto Tecnologico de Sonora (ITSON). Since 2019 he has been based at the University of Sydney, where he actively collaborates with researchers from Mexico, Australia, Japan, the Netherlands, India, Malaysia, and the UK, engaging with government and industry to implement Circular Economy principles and support net-zero goals. He was a Board member of the Mexican Membrane Society, has authored over 80 publications, is member of SNI (Level II) and is Board member of the Australian Chapter of RedGlobalMX .
